Heads-up: Addition of Fidelity ClearPath Index Plus Target Date Funds to the Core investment platform

Plan sponsors may wish to consider whether this investment news has any implications for the investment options available within their plans. Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada purchases units of the funds listed below, which are established as segregated funds in accordance with the Insurance Companies Act (Canada).

This is a heads-up communication of a new platform addition in July 2025. You don’t need to take any immediate action as a result of this announcement.

Sun Life Group Retirement Services (GRS) is pleased to announce the upcoming addition of the Fidelity ClearPath Index Plus Series of Target Date Funds (the Funds). The Funds will be available on our Core investment platform in July 2025. Given the importance of target date funds in Capital Accumulation Plans, we’re providing this update ahead of their official launch on platform. We’ll provide more details closer to when the Funds become available.

About the Funds

Fidelity ClearPath Index Plus Funds is designed to provide exposure to public equity and fixed income markets, primarily by investing in broad market index tracking underlying blocks. The “Plus” in the name refers to a small allocation to alternative asset classes. Fidelity believes that this allocation can improve the diversification benefits of the Funds. The initial alternatives allocation is through direct real estate.

The Funds’ glidepath is ‘Through’ retirement. This means that, like the ClearPath Target Date funds already available on our platform, Fidelity’s strategic asset allocation continues to adjust after retirement, to reflect the changing mix of risks that plan members face through their lifetimes.

The GRS core platform will offer both Institutional versions of Fidelity’s ClearPath target date suites:

  • Blend – Primarily active
  • Index Plus – Primarily passive with small allocation to alternatives 

We are committed to offering choice in one of the most important categories for Capital Accumulation Plans – Target Date. With this addition, we now offer plan sponsors access to seven unique investment options on the core platform.

Do you have to take any action?

You don’t need to take any action. You may consider whether the new funds would be a suitable addition to your lineup. The GRS Investment Solutions team, in partnership with your consultant or advisor, can help with a review of target date providers on the platform.

We will provide a follow-up communication with more details on the Funds, closer to their launch date on the Core platform in late July 2025.
